Aviation and Hangar Construction

Terminals, fixed base operations and aircraft hangars at general aviation airports across the region.

Gray Construction Services has completed six aviation projects worth roughly $10 million, all at general aviation airports in North Central Florida.

That includes the $3.5 million Williston Airport terminal building for the City of Williston, the $1.6 million Sheltair aviation hangar at 19,000 square feet, the $1.2 million Keystone Heights Airpark FBO, and T-hangars at Cross City Airport.

Aviation is a small sector by count and a specialised one by requirement. Airside construction is not like building on an ordinary commercial site.

Building airside

Work inside an airport operations area is governed by the airport, not just the building department. Access is controlled, movement is escorted or badged, and any activity near a movement area is coordinated with airport operations.

Hangars are large-span structures with door systems that dominate the build. Hangar door selection, foundations and the tolerances they demand drive the schedule more than the enclosure does.

Terminal buildings are public buildings with an airside face. They combine ordinary commercial finishes and systems with the security separation, apron access and fuelling adjacency that airports require.

How this work is procured

Aviation projects have been delivered under construction management at-risk for municipal airport owners and private fixed base operators alike.

Do you build aircraft hangars?

Yes, including the 19,000 square foot Sheltair aviation hangar and T-hangars at Cross City Airport.

Have you built airport terminal buildings?

Yes. The Williston Municipal Airport terminal, a 3,700 square foot facility with improved parking and landscaping, was completed for the City of Williston in 2024.

Can you work inside an airport operations area?

Yes. Airside work is coordinated with airport operations, with controlled access and badging as required by the airport.

What is an FBO project?

A fixed base operation is the facility serving general aviation traffic: fuelling, aircraft handling, pilot and passenger facilities. We completed the Keystone Heights Airpark FBO.
